FVCC Student Receives George M. Dennison Civic Engagement Scholarship

Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) has awarded the 2021 George M. Dennison Civic Engagement Scholarship to FVCC student Angela Weiczorek for her service to veteran’s organizations. The scholarship honors degree- or certificate-seeking students at MTCC-affiliate campuses who have volunteered significant time, energy and resources to projects that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Weiczorek is enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Technology program at FVCC. Raised in a military family and now married to a veteran, Weiczorek has experienced the difference veteran’s organizations make in the lives of military family members. She volunteers for the Northwest Montana Veterans Food Pantry and helps veterans navigate the resources available to them through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

“I want to help veterans who are struggling to know they have options and that people care about them,” she said. “The ability to help alleviate just a minor amount of stress in someone’s life is worth all the work.”

Weiczorek is one of 16 college students in Montana selected to receive the $1,000 award this year, half of which was provided by the students’ home institutions and the other donated by the family of the late George M. Dennison. The longest-serving president in the history of the University of Montana, Dennison was a tireless champion of service and the co-founder of Montana Campus Compact.
