Scholarships and Waivers

FVCC is proud to offer students a variety of scholarship opportunities. Scholarships can be based on merit, financial need or other criteria.

Current and Prospective Students

By completing the institutional scholarship application, you may automatically be considered for all FVCC donor-funded scholarships for which you qualify. These scholarships are a significant source of funding for students attending Flathead Valley Community College. 

Qualifications:

  • Applied for admission to FVCC as a degree-seeking student (Running Start students are eligible for awards if they will be degree-seeking during the terms for which they are offered awards)
  • Completed your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the academic year for which you are submitting your scholarship application to be considered for need-based scholarships.

 

Deadline: Applications for Fall scholarships open December 15 and remain open until February 15 each year; Applications for Spring-only scholarships open March 15 and remain open until October 15 each year. Application is closed October 16 – December 14.

This scholarship is designed to recognize and support degree-seeking students who have demonstrated strong academic performance at Flathead Valley Community College. It provides a significant tuition waiver to help you continue your studies.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a degree-seeking student.
  • Must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA during the semester in which you earned your 30th credit at FVCC. 
  • Must be used within two years of establishing eligibility (no exceptions).

 

Deadline: Students must submit this application to the Financial Aid Office no later than the last day of the term in which they wish to utilize this award (e.g., students who wish to utilize this tuition waiver for the fall semester must submit their application by the last day of the fall semester).

The FVCC Eagle Scholarship supports new students embarking on their degree journey at Flathead Valley Community College. Awards are based on academic performance, including GPA, HiSET, or GED scores, and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Qualifications:

  • Must have applied as a new incoming, degree-seeking student for the upcoming fall semester (students who have applied as a degree-seeking student in terms prior to the upcoming fall semester are not eligible).
  • Running Start students can be eligible if they have earned college credits and will now be a degree-seeking student in the upcoming fall semester.
  • Awarded based on the most recent cumulative GPA (high school or college for transfer students), HiSET, or GED scores.
  • Required to enroll in at least 6 credits in semesters receiving the scholarship.
  • May be renewed for the following year if students maintain the appropriate cumulative GPA. 

 

Deadline: Applications open December 15th each year and are collected until all awarding funds have been exhausted. Students not selected for an initial award may be placed on a waitlist to be considered if additional funds become available.  

This prestigious scholarship supports incoming and current Flathead Valley Community College students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Scholars become part of a STEM community designed to guide them through their studies and toward successful transfer. This scholarship is a last-dollar, needs-based scholarship that requires students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered. This scholarship is renewable for up to three years at FVCC based on eligibility.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in exploring STEM programs and plan to transfer after FVCC.
  • Enrolled as a full or part-time degree-seeking student.
  • Meet financial qualifications for the scholarship portion of STEM Experience.
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA to maintain eligibility for their award.
  • Be citizens of the United States, nationals of the United States, aliens admitted as refugees under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence. 

Deadline: Applications for FVCC’s STEM Experience cohort are reviewed on a rolling basis dependent upon availability in the program.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate top 10 percent of their class (determined by the high school)
  • Graduate from one of the following high schools: Flathead, Glacier, Bigfork, Columbia Falls, Whitefish, Whitefish Independent, Linderman Education Center, Eureka, Libby or Troy
  • Students must use the tuition waiver within two years 
  • Students must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA

Qualifications:

  • Must be the top high school graduate (determined by the high school)
  • Must be graduating from one of the following high schools: Arlee, Browning, Charlo, Hot Springs, Noxon, Plains, Polson, Ronan, St. Ignatius, Swan Lake or Thompson Falls 
  • Must be graduating with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Must utilize the tuition waiver within two years
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA while attending FVCC

FVCC Graduates

Offered by the Fedraheimen Lodge 4-140 Sons of Norway, this scholarship assists students who have successfully completed a two-year academic program at Flathead Valley Community College and are transferring to Montana State University or University of Montana. It reflects the lodge’s commitment to supporting the next generation.

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed a two-year academic program at FVCC.
  • Preferred: demonstrated community service.

Deadline: June 30 of your graduating academic year.

FVCC offers this scholarship to support students who have graduated with an associate degree and demonstrate financial need, helping them continue their education at a four-year institution. Awards are primarily based on graduating GPA and financial need. 

Qualifications:

  • Must have graduated from FVCC with an associate degree.
  • Must have demonstrated financial need, evidenced by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the upcoming academic year.
  • Primarily awarded based on graduating GPA and financial need.
  • If there is a tie, the essay will serve as the tiebreaker.

 

Deadline: June 30 of your graduating academic year.

This program provides financial assistance to students who have completed a Certificate of Technical Studies (CTS), a Certificate of Applied Science (CAS), or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS), helping them repay their Federal Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loans. One award granted per year.

Qualifications:

  • Must have earned a Certificate of Technical Studies, Certificate of Applied Science or an Associate of Applied Science at FVCC.
  • Must have Federal Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loans.

 

Deadline: July 31 of your graduating academic year. 

This scholarship is a two-year tuition waiver designed to support high-achieving FVCC graduates as they transfer to a four-year institution within the Montana University System, helping them continue their academic journey. 

Qualifications:

  • Has earned an associate’s degree with a minimum of 3.4 cumulative GPA.
  • Has been enrolled and in attendance at an eligible campus for a minimum of two semesters prior to graduating.
  • Has been accepted by an eligible four-year Montana University System campus.
  • Is a Montana resident.
  • Must complete a FAFSA to demonstrate financial need in case of a tie.
  • Must submit an application, final transcript, and be accepted by an eligible campus by the deadline.

Deadline: June 30; Summer and Fall graduates must apply by June 30 of the following year to be considered (e.g., Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 graduates must apply by June 30, 2026).

State Scholarships

These scholarships are available statewide for Montana residents pursuing approved trade or technology programs. They aim to help students gain the skills needed for in-demand careers. 

Qualifications:

  • Montana resident.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six credits in an approved trade or technology program.

 

Deadline: Fall applications are due by September 1 and Spring applications are due by February 1 each year.

This is a last-dollar award applicable towards tuition costs for Montana National Guard members. Students eligible for this program must submit their application no later than the 3rd week of the first semester for which they are requesting the waiver.

Qualifications:

  • Has applied for the waiver and is a bona fide member of the Guard no later than the 3rd week of the first semester for which they are requesting the waiver.
  • Is certified as a MT National Guard member in good standing who has completed Initial Entry Training.
  • Maintains reasonable academic progress in accordance with the campus’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy used in administering federal financial aid.
  • Has an outstanding tuition balance after applying ALL other sources of aid. 

 

Deadline: 3rd week of the first semester for which they are requesting this award.

Persons of at least one-fourth (1/4) degree Indian blood or are enrolled members of a state recognized or federally recognized Indian tribe which is located within the boundaries of the State of Montana may be eligible for a waiver upon demonstration of financial need. “Financial need” is defined as having at least one dollar of remaining need after subtracting the Student Aid Index, all Title IV grant aid and institutional aid from the cost of attendance. 

Qualifications:

  • Resident of the State of Montana (per BOR Policy 940.1)
  • Student is at least one-quarter (1/4) degree Indian blood or an enrolled member of state or federally recognized tribe located within the boundaries of the State of Montana. State recognized tribes located within the boundaries of Montana are: Assiniboine, Northern Cheyenne, Crow, Sioux, Little Shell Chippewa, Chippewa, Cree, Salish, Kootenai, Blackfeet, Pend d’Oreille and Gros Ventre.
  • Student has demonstrated financial need (per BOR Policy 940.13(F)(4)) and verified by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Student must complete and submit the FAFSA each academic year student requests this tuition waiver. 
  • Submit application directly to FVCC’s Financial Aid Office.

 

Deadline: 3rd week of the first semester for which they are requesting this award.

Open to high school seniors graduating from a Montana high school, this award is a four-year renewable scholarship that waives tuition when used at an eligible campus. Its average value at a four-year campus is approximately $20,000.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Montana resident
  • Must be graduating from a Montana high school with a minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA

Deadline: March 15 of the student’s graduating year
