FVCC’s Registrar is here to guide you through the registration process, keep your academic records up to date, and keep you informed about important dates like registration deadlines and commencement details.

Degree-seeking students earn an associate degree (AA, AS, AAS) or certificate (CAS, CTS). 

  • New students: complete your admissions application, required admissions documents and placement tests (see requirements).After completing your admissions file, contact 406-756-3880 to schedule an appointment with an advisor to help you select and register for classes during scheduled registration dates.
  • Returning students: connect with your advisor each semester before registering for classes. (see FAQ below to help prepare for meeting) Once you’ve met with your advisor, register for classes through the Student Portal.

Non-degree students take courses for personal enrichment, professional development or to gain specific skills without pursuing a degree and are not eligible for financial aid.

  • After completing your admissions file, register during scheduled registration dates. (meeting with an advisor is not required)
  • Register on the Student Portal or through the Course Add/Drop form. Find instructions for registering on the homepage of the Student Portal. Select Registration/Schedule Changes to begin the registration process.

  1. Use the Academic Calendar to find out when registration opens for you.

  2. The Course Schedule is published online 10 days prior to registration opening.

  3. Find the name of your Academic Advisor on the Student Portal homepage.

  4. Find your Academic Advisor’s contact information in the Directory.

Degree seeking students can register for classes on the Student Portal.

How To Register on the Student Portal (PDF)

If you have any holds on your account, these need to be cleared before you're able to register:

  •  “Registration is not open at this time” - you have logged into the current term, instead of the term that you wish to register for. Look for the term under your name on the homepage on the Student Portal.

  •  “Business Hold” - you have a remaining balance on your account or late materials due to the library.

  •  “Academic Status Value” - you are on Academic Warning and will need to meet with an advisor. Call 406-756-3880 or email advisor@fvcc.edu to schedule.

  • “Your Registration Has Been Canceled” - you must enable pop-ups in your browser for the Student Portal to function properly.


  • Use the FVCC Catalog to find your:


  • Log in to the Student Portal to view your Degree Audit, showing what courses you have left to take. If you are applying to a health-science program, find pre-requisite requirements in the FVCC Catalog.

  • Use the Course Schedule to plan the list of classes that work for you for the coming semester.

  • Contact your Academic Advisor when registration opens to schedule time to discuss your ideas for the coming semester. Make sure to schedule a time before the current semester ends, as many faculty out of the office over summer and winter break. They can lift the advising hold on your account so you can register for classes.

  • Come with any questions you have for your advisor about your major, future degrees and careers.

You can change your academic program online through the Student Portal. If you need assistance, visit the Admissions and Registration Office at SC 129. Tuition and fees are determined by residency. Read through our current tuition and fees.

The cost of books varies depending on the course. If you are a full-time student, we encourage you to budget approximately $500 per semester for textbooks.
There are many payment options available at FVCC. You can make a payment online through the Student Portal or stop in the Business Office located in Blake Hall 132 to make a payment in person or to set up a payment plan. Order your books online through the FVCC Bookstore or visit the bookstore on campus in Blake Hall. The bookstore carries both used and new textbooks.
